On the Supergravity Evaluation of Wilson Loop Correlators in Confining Theories
We explicitly show the area law behavior of a circular Wilson loop in
confining theories from supergravity. We calculate the correlator of two Wilson
loops from supergravity in confining backgrounds. We find that it is dominated
by an exchange of a ``scalarball'' that is lighter than the glueballs. We
interpret these results in terms of the meson-meson potential in such theories.Comment: Latex, 13 pages, 2 figure
The string tension in massive
We compute the string tension in massive . It is shown that the string
tension vanishes when the mass of the dynamical quark is zero, with no
dependence on the representations of the dynamical or of the external charges.
When a small mass () is added, a tension appears and we calculate its
value as a function of the representations.Comment: 10 pages, Late
Development of carbon dioxide laser doppler instrumentation detection of clear air turbulence
The analytical, experimental, and developmental aspects of an airborne, pulsed, carbon dioxide laser-optical radar system are described. The laser detects clear air turbulence and performs Doppler measurements of this air-motion phenomenon. Conclusions and recommendations arising from the development of the laser system are presented
Wilson Loops in the Large N Limit at Finite Temperature
Using a proposal of Maldacena we compute in the framework of the supergravity
description of N coincident D3 branes the energy of a quark anti-quark pair in
the large N limit of U(N) N=4 SYM in four dimensions at finite temperature.Comment: 7 pages, LaTeX2e, 5 eps figures; references added and corrected,

On the M-Theory Approach to (Compactified) 5D Field Theories
We construct M-theory curves associated with brane configurations of SU(N),
SO(N) and 5d supersymmetric gauge theories compactified on a circle.
From the curves we can account for all the existing different SU(N) field
theories with . This is the correct bound for . We
remark on the exceptional case SU(2). The bounds obtained for SO(N) and
are and , respectively.Comment: 18 pages, minor correction
Data analysis study and performance evaluation of the scanning laser Doppler system
A simulation program which provided information on theoretically expected vortex spectra, evaluations of potential algorithms, and expected location accuracies for given scan patterns is presented. Field tests using an aircraft engine flow field and aircraft vortices during flyby tests were compared to the results of the simulation. From these studies, a vortex location algorithm was developed which provided vortex location for one or two vortices as a function of time. Results of this algorithm used on data from flyby tests were used to study vortex transport, to evaluate system performance, and to provide suggestions for real-time vortex location algorithms. The results of real-time analysis were compared to those which were expected based on theoretical considerations
